In another sign of the arena’s impending debut, the Milwaukee Bucks have gained control of the brand-new Fiserv Forum.
Fiserv Forum has been under construction in downtown Milwaukee for a little more than two years, and will open for the Bucks in time for the 2018-19 NBA season. The team has been preparing for its move to the new arena, and took a significant step in that direction on Tuesday by signing a legal document to gain control of the facility.
That was significant milestone for the Bucks, and came well in advance of the team’s preseason debut at the arena on October 3. More from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:
At a morning ceremony, Bucks President Peter Feigin signed a legal document giving the Bucks control of the building. The arena is owned by the Wisconsin Center District and leased to the Bucks.
“This project is finished, other than some small enhancements that will come in the months ahead,” said Mike Sorge, project director for Mortenson.
“This building is ready for the owner’s intended use,” he said.
The Mortenson project team gave the Bucks a ceremonial key fashioned from one of the zinc panels that are a key design feature on the building’s swooping roof. The panels are also found in the building’s atrium.
For the Bucks, this marks the second notable development relating to the arena in as many weeks. Last week, the club announced that it had finalized a 25-year arena naming rights agreement with Fiserv, Inc., a Brookfield, WI-based financial services technology provider.
