A major milestone looks to be approaching for the Milwaukee Bucks, as the team will soon announce a naming rights agreement for its new arena.
Construction on the new Bucks arena in downtown Milwaukee continues, with the venue slated to open in time for the 2018-19 NBA season. The Bucks have been working to secure a corporate naming rights partner for the arena leading up to its eventual opening, but the team has yet to announce an agreement.
That could soon change. Bucks owner Wes Edens is indicating that a new naming rights deal will soon be announced, though he is holding off on revealing major details about the agreement. More from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
“It’s very close – imminent is what I would say is probably the word,” Wes Edens said in an interview.
“It’s a company that’s local. It’s got a national presence,” Edens said, declining to discuss more details about the business that will be the Bucks’ most important partner for years to come.
“We have been exchanging contracts. There are really no open issues,” he said.
The arena has been referred to as the Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Center throughout its construction process, but that moniker has always been intended as a placeholder until an official name is unveiled. While the Bucks are still waiting on an announcement for the arena naming rights partner, the team has already revealed founding partner agreements with a few sponsors, including BMO Harris Bank, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, Johnson Controls, and MillerCoors,
The Bucks, who are currently playing against the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs, hosted their final regular-season game at the BMO Harris Bradley Center earlier this month. The BMO Harris Bradley Center is slated to be demolished once the new arena opens to clear the way for future development.
