Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena is receiving early positive feedback, as the new venue’s event schedule heats up after its opening this fall.
Located on a site adjacent to the Will Rogers Memorial Center campus, Dickies Arena was designed to host a broad slate of events, ranging from Fort Worth Stock Show rodeo performances and concerts, to college sports games and tournaments. The grand opening ceremony for the venue took place late last month, ahead of a series of events that included concerts by George Strait over the weekend.
Feedback from guests during initial events at the venue, including this past weekend’s concerts, has been largely positive. That is leaving many optimistic about how Dickies Arena will perform when hosting additional major events in the future. More from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
“Everybody is just euphoric,” said Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley, of Hurst.
“They got it right the first time. I think we’ll have a lot more of these [concerts and events] here than people realize.”
Mark “Hawkeye” Louis of KSCS/96.3 FM, the dean of local country music radio, had seen the arena at an earlier Steve Miller Band concert.
“There’s no bad seat, and the acoustics are so great,” he said.
Sports will play a big part in the events slate at Dickies Arena, including college basketball, as the venue is set to host its first game for TCU men’s basketball program on December 6, followed by a contest between the University of Texas and Texas A&M on December 8. There are also a number of notable college sports events in the coming years. The NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships will be hosted at Dickies Arena from 2020-2022, with NCAA Men’s Basketball First and Second round action coming in 2022, and American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championships from 2020-2022.
