Henderson AHL Arena Planning Continues

AHL

Planning for a proposed Henderson AHL arena continues, as officials in the Las Vegas suburb schedule a public meeting for next month.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the Vegas Golden Knights have an agreement to purchase the San Antonio Rampage franchise membership from Sports Sports & Entertainment. Should they receive the necessary approvals from the AHL board of governors, the Golden Knights will buy the team and relocate it to the Las Vegas area after this season, with home games in the 2020-21 AHL campaign to be played at Orleans Arena.

The team’s stay at Orleans Arena would serve as a stopgap until a new arena is completed, with the Golden Knights announcing earlier this month that they will work with Henderson officials to build a new 6,000-seat venue at the Henderson Pavilion site. Henderson has scheduled a community meeting for March 9, one way that local residents can gather more information on the proposed venue. More from News3LV.com:

The community meeting is planned for Monday, March 9, starting at 4 p.m. at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch Clubhouse, according to the city. Additional presentations would take place at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Residents are also invited to send questions and comments to the city via an online submission form….

According to a statement posted on the city website, Henderson officials were already looking to build an enclosed facility before the Golden Knights purchased the San Antonio AHL franchise license, citing wind damage to the canopy in recent years.

In addition to AHL games, the arena would be designed to accommodate concerts and other performances, high school and college graduations, other sporting events, and more. This project would be separate from Henderson’s upcoming Lifeguard Arena, which is planned as the AHL team’s headquarters and training facility.
