At an Estero, FL Design Review Board meeting Wednesday, some officials called for changes to a proposed paint job to Hertz Arena’s exterior.
Last week, Estero-based Hertz and hockey’s Florida Everblades (ECHL) announced a new naming-rights agreement to rename the team’s home Hertz Arena. To bolster its brand’s presence on the facility, the car rental company is proposing an elaborate Hertz Arena exterior paint job that would incorporate the black and yellow color scheme used in its branding (a rendering is shown above).
The proposed change is pending the consideration of the Design Review Board, which discussed the plans during a meeting on Wednesday. Many residents expressed concerns over the proposal–contending that it does not fit into Village of Estero standards–and some board members also showed concerns and expressed their desire for an alternative. For their part, arena and Hertz officials indicated an openness to consider feedback. More from the Naples Daily News:
Board member Barry Jones suggested the companies look at color design options that would help break up the appearance of the size of the arena.
“Going with a single, monolithic color with a structure like that, the building is too iconic,” Jones said. “People know when they’re driving down the highway that they’re in Estero when they see this building.”
Representatives of Hertz and Germain Arena said they were open to the feedback from the board.
“We’ll get with Hertz and see what’s acceptable with them,” said Scott Bryant, senior vice president of Germain Arena.
No final decision was made at Wednesday’s meeting, as the board is not expected to vote until a later date. The Hertz Arena identity will replace the Germain Arena branding that had been in place since 2004, when Germain Automotive Group agreed to facility naming rights.
