Groundbreaking Set for New College Park G League Arena

On Monday, officials will celebrate a groundbreaking ceremony for a new NBA Gatorade League (G League) arena in College Park, GA

As was first announced back in 2016, the Atlanta Hawks are planning to place their own G League franchise at an upcoming College Park arena.

That move is still on track to take effect when the new venue opens for the 2019-2020 G League season. Several other details about the project are expected to be revealed during Monday afternoon’s groundbreaking ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 12:30 eastern time. More from Neighbor Newspapers:

“This arena will be the future home of the Atlanta Hawks G League team, the first ever Hawks development team in their home state,” [spokeswoman Kelli] Colter said in a statement.

It will also be a multipurpose venue, suitable for other sporting events, concerts and conventions, she said.

The celebration will include views of the arena’s renderings and announcement of its official name.

While the Hawks’ new G League franchise will not arrive in College Park until 2019, it has already begun play in Erie, PA as the Erie BayHawks. The team is expected to remain in Erie until the new College Park arena opens.
