The Minnesota Wild will have a major tribute to Prince this season, as the Minnesota native and music icon’s “Let’s Go Crazy!” has been selected as the team’s new goal song.
Selected in from a season ticket holder survey, “Let’s Go Crazy!” will play every time the Wild score at the Xcel Energy Center this season. Other tributes will be staged for Prince, who passed away in April.
“Our in-arena experience is designed for the fans, so it’s great to be able to show them we take their feedback to heart,” said John Maher, vice president of brand, content and communications for the Minnesota Wild. “At the same time, it’s our privilege to celebrate an iconic hometown artist that clearly has had an incredible impact on our community and the world.”
The Minnesota Wild decided to poll season ticket holders after the team played the song in the same manner during Game 6 of its Stanley Cup Playoff Series against the Dallas Stars on April 24, a few days following the legendary artist’s sudden passing. The survey was sent to all Minnesota Wild season ticket and partial plan holders, who voted nearly 2-to-1 in favor of the change. The Wild also received a substantial number of calls, emails and social media comments from fans.
The first preseason home game for the Minnesota Wild is Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. when the team hosts the Colorado Avalanche at Xcel Energy Center. The Wild open the 2016-17 regular season in St. Louis on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., and return home to welcome the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.
The Wild will also join the “Unite in Purple” celebration to honor Prince’s life at the Minnesota State Fair on Friday, Aug. 26. Fans can view the Wild’s purple tribute at the team’s booth inside the Fan Central building at Dan Patch Ave. and Underwood St.
