Yum Brands lands naming rights for Louisville arena

KFC Yum! Center

The new downtown Louisville arena will be known as KFC Yum! Center, as the locally based Yum! Brands and the Louisville Arena Authority come to an agreement on a 10-year, $13.5 naming-rights deal.

The deal is considerably less than what the Louisville Arena Authority once envisioned in a naming-rights deal: at one point a figure of $40 million over 20 year was discussed. In addition to the naming rights, Yum Brands also snared the rights to eight concession stands in the building as well as other as-yet-undisclosed considerations.

Yum Brands is the umbrella company for the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and A&W chains.

The $238-million, 22,000-seat arena opens this fall as the home of University of Louisville basketball.
