To date the Devils have not paid the city of Newark a penny in rent for the two-year-old arena. Part of the problem lies in the terms of the lease, according to this excellent analysis from NJBIZ, which specifies the Devils pay at least $3 million annually for the facility. But the Devils claim city ineptitude at finishing the arena cost them money — but won’t say how much.
