The SLU Billikens opened Chaifetz Arena last night with an exhibition-game victory, as coach Rick Majerus loves what he sees in the new facility.
And why shouldn’t he? For the Billikens, who have called Kiel Auditorium, the St. Louis Arena and Scottrade Center home since 1945, the new oncampus facility means the team will have a permanent home more conductive to recruiting and player retention.
And more conductive to attracting fans, particularly more of the high-buck variety. The $77-million Chaifetz Arena has suites, a full-service restaurant at court level for big-buck donors, padded seats, plenty of concessions and a team-gear shop. Instead of a large scoreboard at the center of the arena, there are four giant video screens in each corner.
More on the new building from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
For players, the new arena features state-of-the-art training facilities and locker rooms.
