UIFL and IFL merge into new indoor-football league

A new 20-team league could be the result of a merger between the United Indoor Football league and Intense Football League. It’s almost impossible to keep track of franchise comings and goings in minor-league indoor football, but a recent development may put the sport on a more solid basis.

The United Indoor Football League and Intense Football League are merging to create the Indoor Football League. The strongest teams from each league will take part in the new league, which currently has 17 teams; an expansion into three cities could boost that total to 20.

The new league will have teams in Billings, Sioux Falls, Fort Collins, Omaha, Sioux City, Bloomington (Ill.), Wichita, St. Joseph (Mo.), Fairbanks, Anchorage, Robstown, Odessa, Katy, San Angelo, Lake Charles, Frisco, and Corpus Christi.
