We have name and branding for the newest AHL team: the Henderson Silver Knights, as the Vegas Golden Knights unveiled details for the team slated to eventually play in the Las Vegas suburb.
The former San Antonio Rampage will play this season and next out of Orleans Arena, a former minor-league hockey arena at the Orleans Hotel & Casino. It’s an intimate facility, to be sure: the official capacity is 9,500, but those folks are crammed into a single-deck horseshoe grandstand with suites above. And if the Golden Knights put as much effort into a top-notch performance as they do at T-Mobile Arena, a Henderson Silver Knights game should be a rocking experience.
The Silver Knight logo is designed to complement the Golden Knights logo, with silver, gold and black being the primary colors. The H-shaped head represents the team’s home in Henderson, while. 20 silver links of chainmail on the neck and the 21 rivets on the armor combine to signify the teams inaugural 20-21 AHL season. The golden eyes in the logo show the desire to advance to the Golden Knights.
The team will train at Henderson’s Lifeguard Arena and move to the renovated Henderson arena for the 2022-2023 season. Henderson officials and the Golden Knights have pitched the arena as not only a venue for minor-league hockey, but also for a wide range of offerings that could include concerts and other performances, high school and college graduations, other sporting events, and more. For the city, it would also address the future of Henderson Pavilion, a 6,500-capacity venue that is facing a number of challenges, including a failing sound system and seating. In addition, its canopy structure suffered damage from weather incidents twice in recent years, leading to the complete removal of the venue’s tent-like cover last year.
