Second Extension Granted for Ronkonkoma Vision Project Developers

The developers of the Ronkonkoma Vision Project, which includes a proposed arena, have been granted a second extension to submit updated plans to Suffolk County, NY.

A development group led by Chicago-based Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) released its latest concept in March for the Ronkonkoma Vision Project–a proposed development on a 40-acre parcel between MacArthur Airport and the Ronkonkoma Long Island Rail Road station. Those plans called for a 7,500-seat arena that could accommodate a minor-league hockey team in the AHL, along with a 6,000-seat outdoor stadium, surrounding fields, office space, a convention center, hotel, and retail.

Over the months since, the group has been working to pin down more detailed plans to submit to the county. An initial deadline of August was eventually pushed to November, and the group later requested a second extension. The county has confirmed that it extended the deadline, and says that it is eager to see the updated plans. More from Newsday:

The group asked the county last month for a second extension on their submission deadline “to further advance the progress it has made toward building a knowledge-based, technology-focused healthcare and life sciences growth economy for the future of Long Island,” according to John Cameron of Woodbury-based Cameron Engineering & Associates.

[Suffolk County spokesman Jason] Elan said the county is not concerned over the delays in receiving the developers’ updated proposal. “We are excited for the anticipated submission,” Elan said.

The county selected the original proposal by the Jones Lang LaSalle group over three competing developers in April 2018 in response to its request for qualifications regarding the development of county land between MacArthur Airport and the Ronkonkoma LIRR station.

The submission is now due in April.
