A new amenity is on tap at Moby Arena, as Colorado State University has begun work on a party deck.
In what should be a unique addition, Moby Arena will receive a new party deck that is slated to be operational in the coming months. More exact details are expected to emerge between now and when the space opens, but it is anticipated that access will be available at a cost beyond a game ticket. The party deck will feature beer sales in a setting that is expected include multiple tiers, a bar area, and drink rails.
Colorado State began construction work on Monday. At this point, the university is hoping that the space will be completed by the beginning of spring semester classes in late January. More from The Coloradoan:
[Colorado State athletic director Joe] Parker confirmed the timetable for the Moby Arena porch project last week but was not immediately available Monday to go into specifics.
CSU hopes to complete construction of the porch during the school’s winter break and open it by Jan. 22, when spring-semester classes begin. CSU’s women’s basketball team is scheduled to play a home game Jan. 23 against Nevada. The first men’s basketball home game of the spring semester is Jan. 26 against Fresno State.
Workers from Rocky Mountain Construction and Coatings, a Fort Collins contractor, were dismantling the fold-out bleachers above the walkway on the west side of the arena Monday. CSU plans to recycle the steel and other materials being removed to make way for the porch, said Doug Max, a CSU senior associate athletic director in charge of facilities and event management.
Plans call for a bar area to include two to three tiers, lined with rails that drinks can be set upon while fans stand and watch the game, according to a handful of boosters who saw the plans last spring and spoke about them on the condition of anonymity.
It is worth noting that Colorado State is adding the Moby Arena party deck after successfully utilizing a similar amenity at another of its facilities, football’s Canvas Stadium. In that case, the New Belgium Porch has proven to be one of the more sought-after destinations within the stadium since it opened for the 2017 season.
