If the Canadian federal government won’t fund a share of a new Quebec City arena, Mayor Regis Labeaume says his administration is working on a back-up plan to ensure the facility is built.
So far prospects for federal funding don’t look good — some politicians are wary about setting a precedent for federal funding of local facilities — but Labeaume can make a point or two about the national importance of a new arena should it be used as the centerpiece for a Quebec City Olympic bid. While he didn’t talk specifics, he did say he didn’t anticipate using general funds to pay for what is sure to be a C$400+ arena.
