The Anaheim Ducks, who played without an AHL affiliate last season, has signed a deal to supply players to the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch and is dropping the ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors in the process.
The decision to drop the Condors was purely logistical: Ducks management didn’t want to have two minor-league affiliates on different coasts. And rather than wait for another AHL team to move to the West Coast — which apparently was the case for the Ducks — the decision was made to strike an agreement with Syracuse and then look for an ECHL team on the East Coast.
Bakersfield, in the meantime, is looking for a new NHL or AHL partner.
