The University of Georgia will spend $1.9 million on design work for the expansion of athletic venues, including Stegeman Coliseum.

The University of Georgia will spend $1.9 million on design work for the expansion of athletic venues, including Stegeman Coliseum.

The plan would be to take down the existing walls of the arena and expand them to the edge of the current roofline. With the extra space, the concourses would be expanded, giving UGA an additional 10,000 square feet of space for concessions, restrooms, storage and office space. The outer wall would be made of glass, giving the 45-year-old arena a modern feel.

If the designers conclude the plan is feasible, a budget will be finalized and presented to the UGA Athletic Association Board of Directors this fall.
