The Toledo Walleye will become the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, in a move to be announced today by both teams.
It's the continuation of a Detroit-Toledo relationship in many sports. The Detroit Tigers have their Triple-A team in Toledo, while the Toledo Storm served as a Red Wings affiliate for 15 years. And the affiliation deal is not a surprise: the Tigers and Red Wings have common ownership, as do the baseball Mud Hens and Walleye.
