Blue Jackets looks to county to buy arena, renegotiate lease

The Columbus Blue Jackets are looking to Franklin County to buy Nationwide Arena in a move funded by increased sin taxes.

The NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets are looking to Franklin County to buy Nationwide Arena in a move funded by increased sin taxes.

The proposal, which has been proposed to state legislators, gives Franklin County the power to raise taxes on alcohol and cigarettes to raise money for a purchase of Nationwide Arena from Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co, which built the privately financed facility. Franklin County would presumably be free to work on a better lease for the Blue Jackets.
