KeyArena renovation funding looking doubtful: politicians

A proposal to let Seattle tap into hotel and restaurant taxes to pay for a renovation of KeyArena appears to be dead in this session of the Washington Legislature.
A proposal to let Seattle tap into hotel and restaurant taxes to pay for a renovation of KeyArena appears to be dead in this session of the Washington Legislature.

The bill would let Seattle use the same tax funds used to build Safeco Field and Qwest Field. About $75 million would be raised from these sales taxes; the proceeds would be used for a $300 million renovation of KeyArena in an attempt to bring back the NBA.

The bill is stuck in the Senate Ways and Means Committee, and Chairwoman Margarita Prentice says there’s no consensus on how to move forward with the bill. As a result, she thinks it will die unpassed when the session ends.
