CBC: Graeme Roustan emerges as leading contender for Habs

The CBC is reporting Graeme Roustan is emerging as a leading contender to land the Montreal Canadiens. The CBC is reporting Graeme Roustan is emerging as a leading contender to land the Montreal Canadiens, as team officials wade through 10 bids for the historic franchise and Bell Centre.

Roustan is well-known in the arena world: his construction firm, Roustanunited, builds and manages arena, while he’s also chair of Bauer Hockey. On Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada, Scott Morrison reported Roustan was "keen" to buy 81 percent of the Habs from George Gillett. (Molson holds 19 percent.) And who can blame him? We’re talking one of the iconic franchises in all of sports.

Also in the running: the Quebec Pension Fund and a group led by former Canadien Serge Savard. The Savard group would be extremely popular with the Montreal fan base, but we’re guessing anyone who comes in and says the right things and hires the right coach will do OK.
