Though there’s a general slowdown in the arena naming-rights world, officials from Wilkes-Barre’s Wachovia Arena say they have solid interest in a new deal starting in 2010.
Those expressing interest include current naming-rights holder Wells Fargo, which now owns Wachovia.
A decision won’t be coming any time soon: the Luzerne County Convention Center Authority, which owns and operates the arena, will be looking at proposals and meeting with potential buyers. The original naming-rights deal in 2000 landed the authority $2.3 million over 10 years, and officials want to see at least that much flow into their coffers, if not more.
