A redevelopment plan for downtown Louisville that included the renovation of Louisville Gardens and a possible minor-league-hockey franchise has collapsed after developer Cordish Co. pulls the plug on the project.
Cordish, which has seen other high-profile sports-related developments delay or disappoint in Kansas City and St. Louis, had proposed an expansion of the downtown entertainment district to Muhammad Ali Boulevard from Second to Sixth streets. Cordish is the developer of the Fourth Street Live project in downtown Louisville.
The plan called for office and retail space, along with entertainment space as well as renovation of Louisville Gardens. Cordish had pledged $200 million toward the project, with the city ponying up $24.4 million.
