Hosting the 1988 Winter Olympics, Pengrowth Saddledome, originally named Olympic Saddledome has made a name for itself with hockey fans around the world. The Saddledome opened its doors in 1983, and was the first hockey stadium in North America that accommodated international-sized rinks. With its unique saddle-shaped roof, this stadium is apparent in the skyline of Calgary. The roof, which has 122 meter span but only 60 centimeters thick, was constructed with pre-cast concrete panels suspended by post-tension cables, which creates the sloping in the middle.Year Opened: 1983

With its unique saddle-shaped roof, this stadium is apparent in the skyline of Calgary. Located minutes from downtown, the Pengrowth Saddledome is Calgary’s premiere entertainment center, and with 6,000 acoustic tiles attached to the roof, it provides a greater sound when concerts are held.

In addition to the Calgary Flames, the Saddledome is the home to the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League and the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League.
