NDSU receives $10M gift for arena renovation

New Bison Sports Arena 1

As part of the move to NCAA Division I, North Dakota State University is upgrading its athletics facilities — a task made easier with a $10-million gift from Fargo-based Sanford Health, which will go toward the renovation of Bison Sports Arena and expansion of the school’s athletic facilities.

The total project price is pegged at $32 million. As part of the deal, the complex will be known as the Sanford Health Athletic Complex, but naming rights for the arena itself will be available separately.

The renovation of the arena will see seating go down slightly — from 5,830 to 5,700 — but all the seating will feature chairbacks and be retractable. In addition, an addition to the arena will feature two courts, while an indoor track-and-field building will be located nearby.

The design of the arena redesign comes from Fargo-based T.L. Stroh Architects and Interiors.
