A major esports venue is currently in the works, as a venture capital firm is proceeding with a $70-million development that will include a new Houston esports arena.
Work America Capital Management is moving forward with a $70-million development that will feature multiple components, including an esports arena that, once completed, will become the home of the Houston Outlaws (Overwatch League). The campus will serve multiple purposes, but the esports venue is drawing considerable attention, particularly after a recent viewing party for the Outlaws drew more than 600 spectators. More from The Daily Mail:
The area will include the Mainline-managed esports arena, as well as a 120,000 square-foot coworking complex called ‘The Cannon’. Both Mainline and The Cannon are among the dozen portfolio firms under Work America Capital’s wing.
This comes days after the firm held a successful viewing party for Overwatch League team, Houston Outlaws, which exceeded expectations as over 600 fans crammed in.
According to Work America Capital Management cofounder, Mark Toon, ‘The Cannon’ will also include temporary housing, a gym and an American football field as well as a retail space with restaurants.
The Outlaws, who are owned by OpTic Gaming, are currently playing at Blizzard Arena in Burbank. However, an eventual move to a permanent venue in Houston has been expected.
