Missouri State University officials have appointed a task force to examine why two-year-old JQH Arena is losing money and address criticism on its financial performance from State Auditor Susan Montee.
When the arena opened two years ago, it was hailed as a financial savior for the university. Instead, athletic-department revenues from the arena have actually declined since the place opened, and it runs at a loss.
To what degree the arena loses money, however, is up for debate. Montee’s report indicated the Board of Governors was misleading people when it argued the arena and two other related enterprises were actually profitable; she also said there was some questionable spending from the arena budget.
The task force, made up of faculty and students, will address these concerns.
