The amenities at Traverse City’s Centre I.C.E. are a whole lot better for this fall’s Prospects Camp and Detroit Red Wings training, as arena officials today are unveiling several improvements to the facility.
Each fall Centre I.C.E. is one of the busiest arenas anywhere: this year eight NHL teams are participating in Prospects Camp, and the Detroit Red Wings are bringing training camp there for the 13th straight year.
The arena expansion is possible because of the success of Prospects Camp; demand is forcing the tourney director to expand it to 12 teams for 2012.
To accommodate those extra teams, coaches and scouts, two new NHL-sized clubhouses were added, as well as new trainers and coaches rooms. An ice-view lounge was added for the scouts; it will be used as a suite for Traverse City North Stars (NAHL) games.
