Floor at Iowa State’s Hilton Coliseum under water

Iowa State CyclonesFlooding on the Skunk River has encompassed Hilton Coliseum, the home of the Iowa State Cyclones, to an eight-foot level, and no doubt there will be considerable damage to the facility once the floodwaters recede.

Iowa State women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly managed get get inside the arena and saw the hardbood basketball floor floating in what he estimated to be eight feet of water.

“It was floating,” Fennelly told Des Moines Register sports writer Randy Peterson. “It’s really bad what’s happening; it’s sad. This is my sixteenth year in Ames. I can easily say that it’s the worst flooding I’ve ever seen.”

The river is expected to crest this afternoon.
