The first phase of a renovation of Crisler Arena, home of the University of Michigan basketball teams, was approved yesterday by the school’s Board of Regents.
The first $20 million will go toward a total replacement of seating in the lower bowl, including upgrades to ensure the facility meets Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines; a new roof; new alarm systems; and new emergency lighting. Most of the money will go to unglamorous infrastructure improvements; down the line will come other improvements designed to improve the aesthetics of the place. Crisler Arena isn’t the most glamorous of venues.
