Checkers: We’re happy with Time Warner Cable Arena

The Charlotte Checkers won't be moving out of Time Warner Cable Arena any time soon, according to team owners.

Not many ECHL teams play in big venues, but the Charlotte Checkers seem to be doing OK as the secondary tenant in Time Warner Cable Arena, averaging 5,311 fans per game last season.

Still, the team is a secondary tenant with little say on scheduling, so no one would begrudge the team anything if ownership decided to look around for a better situation. And despite some rumors of a new sportsplex in the Charlotte area off I-485 and U.S. 74, owner Michael Kahn that there are no plans to leave uptown Charlotte.

Yet, anyway. Again, if such a sportsplex came to be, we certainly wouldn't begrudge Kahn a chance to crunch some numbers.

The Checkers, by the way, open the season Sunday at 2; we'll be there.
