Plans for a new $127-million Evansville arena have shifted to a new site: the Executive Inn hotel, which would be scaled back and renovated as a new 250-room as part of the development.
It is not the site recommended by consultants to the project, but the new site is closer to the Civic Center — to the point where the two facilities can share parking. Parking is expected to be a big issue as debate over the arena continues: there will be 3,000 spots near the new site, as well as street parking.
The new arena will be funded with TIF funds.
