New arena planned for Suffolk County’s Yaphank

Not yet, anyway, though. 

The two final proposals include a 6,000-seat arena. That’s pretty much the perfect size for an AHL team, although AHL spokesperson Jason Chaimovitch says he’s not aware of any plans to relocate a team there. (Nor should he: it’s way too early in the process for a developer to have had discussions with an AHL team owner.)

Arena management firm SMG is part of one bid from a consortium that Katter Development, The Hudson Group and the Parr Organization. The other bid comes from Avalon Bay Communities and Damianos Realty Group.
