The experiment with AHL hockey in the Quad Cities will end after this season, as the Calgary Flames had decided to move their top affiliate to a new arena in Abbotsford, B.C.

It’s not been officially announced and may not be announced until after the end of the season. Abbotsford is in the midst of building a new $64 million arena, slated to open in March. There had previously been talk of an WHL or ECHL team moving to the arena, but it appears the AHL will win out.

The new arena will feature 20 suites, 200 premium seats and 12 private boxes.
