Jazz eye upgrades to EnergySolutions Arena

Expanded premium seating, new concessions and the possible addition of a restaurant are on the table as the management of the Utah Jazz (NBA) eye upgrades to EnergySolutions Arena.Expanded premium seating, new concessions and the possible addition of a restaurant are on the table as the management of the Utah Jazz (NBA) eye upgrades to EnergySolutions Arena.

The issue for the Jazz, like so many NBA teams, is squeezing more revenue from an older facility. Don’t look now, but the former Delta Center is now the ninth-oldest arena in the NBA — a shock if you’re like us and can remember the team playing at the Salt Palace 17 years ago. Of the eight older facilities, one is closing (Orlando’s Amway Arena), three have been renovated in recent years and another (Madison Square Garden) is slated for an extreme makeover.

The issue in Salt Lake City: EnergySolutions Arena is a perfectly fine facility, and the Jazz have a large, loyal following. So the challenge is add new revenue streams to the arena.

Not that the team is looking to move. When you hear talk of franchises possibly looking at new markets, the name of the Jazz is never mentioned: with strong local ownership in Larry Miller and total control over the arena, it’s a given the Jazz is a profitable franchise — the issue now is leveraging the facility to generate even more cash.
