Architect Gene Dub presented his vision of a new downtown Edmonton Oilers arena — but city officials don’t sound thrilled with the plan.
Dub is calling for an entertainment complex on the eastern edge of downtown in The Quarters redevelopment. A unique arena — with an elevated, copper-colored bowl, anchored by two towering office buildings — would be the centerpiece of the development.
The issue, according to city officials: The Quarters isn’t under consideration as the potential arena site — the city has identified six potential downtown sites — and the Oilers haven’t come out in favor of the plan.
