Former Sonic great Gary Payton says players are discussing a plan to renovate KeyArena in hopes of bringing in a new NBA team.

In town for opening ceremonies at the Seattle Seahawks home game at Qwest Field, Payton says he’s talked with other players and a city official about the possibility of renovating KeyArena — a key condition laid down by Commissioner David Stern in discussions of the NBA returning.

"I think before 2011 a team will be here," Payton told AP. "A lot of things and speculation … a lot of teams that want to move, so I think Seattle’s got a good shot at it."
