Almost 3,000 seats are being added to Saskatoon’s Credit Union Centre, just in time for the arena to host the 2010 World Junior Hockey Tournament.
The Saskatoon City Council approved the addition of 2,981 seats upper-deck seats to Credit Union Centre, pushing the total capacity to 15,000 (more for concerts) in anticipation of the venue hosting the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship.
The spending is contingent on the arena receiving money from provincial sources as well.
The work is slated to be completed by November 2009. Besides increasing capacity for the junior tourney, the added seating is expected to help the city attract the Briere (the premiere curling event) and possibly the Memorial Cup tourney. The price tag: $6.7 million.
