Renovations on tap for Syracuse’s War Memorial

New locker rooms, seating and roof are on tap for War Memorial Arena in Syracuse — but it’s not enough for the owners of the AHL’s Crunch.
New locker rooms, seating and roof are on tap for War Memorial Arena in Syracuse after Onondaga County officials approved a spending measure today. The total cost of the renovations: $9.1 million.

But the renovations don’t go far enough, according to Syracuse Crunch (AHL) president Howard Dolgon, as spending for a new scoreboard was denied. In fact, Dolgon went to the point of predicting that the Crunch could be on the market and end up in Brooklyn, Kansas City or Oklahoma City because of the county’s lack of spending on the proposed $717,000 scoreboard.

Then again, Dolgon is a winner of sorts: the team will receive a reduction in rent because the promised scoreboard will not be installed. But we suspect he’d rather have the new scoreboard than the rent reduction.
