Auburn breaks ground on new arena

Auburn University breaks ground on a new arena, slated to be ready for the 2010-2011 season.
Friday was a landmark event in Auburn basketball history, as the university broke ground on a new arena, slated to be ready for the 2010-2011 season.

The groundbreaking was even more symbolic than a normal arena groundbreaking: work has already begun on the replacement for Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum — the new $90-million facility will be located on what was a parking lot directly north of Beard-Eaves. The new arena will seat 9,600 fans.

Designing the new arena: 360 Architecture (Kansas City) and Davis Architects (Birmingham).
