It will be all or nothing for Western Athletic Conference basketball fans this winter.
The league announced a change in scheduling formats for the 2008-09 season. Men’s basketball teams will continue to play on a Thursday-Saturday basis but women’s games will now be moved to a Friday-Sunday format.
"It’s hard to come to a game four nights in a row," Boise State women’s basketball coach Gordy Presnell said. "We’re just going to ask them to do it. We hope they’ll get behind both teams."
WAC Commissioner Karl Benson said the decision was supported by league coaches, but not without some concerns.
"We wouldn’t have done it without coach support," he said. "But there was some reservations about Sunday conflicting with church activities. We’ll try to work around those as much as possible."
Benson admitted there are concerns about doing teams playing four straight days at home. There is also some problem balancing the needs of a nine-team conference. "There is no such thing as a perfect schedule with a nine-team league and based on our geography," he said. "We know there will more than likely be some unhappy coaches."
