After several starts and stops, a new Allentown (Pa.) arena is back on after the Allentown City Council approved the use of eminent domain to acquire some 30 properties in downtown Allentown for a facility site.
The 8,500-seat arena would house the relocating Adirondack Phantoms (AHL) and be built by Wisconsin-based Hammes Co. It would open for the 2013-2014 season.
There is opposition among some of the property owners; the city says agreements have been reached without half of the businesses in the arena site, but there are some owners who oppose any more and will surely seek their day in court.
