The fate of the Springfield Falcons (AHL) will be revealed today, but it looks like the financially troubled franchise will be staying at MassMutual Center, at least for the near future.
It’s no secret the ownership of the Falcons has faced some difficulties in the past few years: Team president Bruce Landon has said some new investors or new local owners were needed to keep the team in Massachusetts. The team isn’t a great draw, attracting just 3,378 fans a game (good for 27th in the AHL), and some spark of life is needed.
We may see that spark today, as the team has scheduled a press conference at the arena. Usually that’s a good sign.
