Lancers, Ralston close to arena agreement

Omaha LancersThe Omaha Lancers (USHL) and the suburban city of Ralston are deep into talks over a new $25-million 3,500-seat arena, funded by the local equivalent of tax-increment financing.

The arena would be be built at the corner of Q and 72nd streets, on the former Lakeview Golf Course. It would be funded by the increased taxes on new development on the site; a Menard’s is also a possibility for another part of the 34-acre parcel. The arena would also feature 16,000 square feet of retail and two ice sheets.

The Lancers, who have struggled to find a home despite having a pretty devoted fan base, is playing this season at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
