The price tag for a proposed Bangor (Maine) arena and convention center is between $70 million and $80 million — pretty standard these days, maybe even a little on the low side — but several members of the City Council said they were surprised by the amount.
The price estimate came from Cianbro Corp., a local firm working as construction manager, and architects Sink Combs Dethlefs. The breakdown of costs: $57 million for the 5,800-seat (8,500 total capacity) arena, $14 million for the convention-center space and $8.5 million for skyways and other cost. Add in design fees, a contingency fund and more, and you’re close to that $80 million mark.
One interesting other design note: no ice. That may be a decision that comes back to haunt them.
