The Central Hockey League shrinks by a team temporarily as the Amarillo Gorillas suspend operations and will look for a new home.
The team has been playing at Amarillo Civic Center since 1996.
Team owner Randy Sanders says the economics of the CHL won’t work in a market like Amarillo. He also owns the city’s indoor-football team and says it’s doing fine with 3,000 fans per game.
Cities like Beaumont are on the lookout for a CHL team, however. Suspending operations doesn’t preclude a franchise move, but it does mean (for now) the franchise will be dormant in the 2010-2011 season.
