Reunion Arena demolition delayed

Reunion Arena, the former home of the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars, is taking longer than anticipated to demolish.

It will take longer than anticipated to demolish Reunion Arena, the former home of the Dallas Mavericks (NBA) and Dallas Stars (NHL), as crews discovered Styrofoam insulation in the upper reaches of the arena.

Since Styrofoam crumbles pretty easily, it can't be removed with a mass demolition; it basically needs to be removed by hand. So the upper decks of the arena are taking longer than planned to remove, pushing the project back three months and costing the city an additional $50,000.
