The current arena seats 5,600, a capacity too small to attract many of the musical acts and touring shows that would otherwise be attracted to a market the size of Salisbury. The goal, according to a committee appointed by the county's chief executive, is to either expand the current arena for $86 million or build a new one for $110 million. If expansion is the preferred route, additional land would need to be acquired to up the parking capacity.
In addition, the committee recommended lifting a ban on alcohol sales in the arena. There had been interest from minor-league hockey organizations in the Salisbury market, but it would be extremely hard to make money if beer sales were not part of the mix.
