Public lukewarm over prospects of new Kalamazoo arena

A public meeting designed to draw input for a proposed $81.4-million downtown Kalamazoo arena attracted plenty of folks who weren't enthusiastic about the idea

Their issues were the same raised when any new arena project is proposed: the new facility could become too popular (thus trying up traffic in downtown Kalamazoo), be a financial white elephant or fail to draw investment to the area. All three are very valid concerns, and overcoming these concerns will be the prime challenge of arena organizers.

The new arena could serve as the home of Western Michigan athletics and the Kalamazoo Wings (IHL).
