Pearl Jam to close down Spectrum

The last act scheduled for Philadelphia's Spectrum: Pearl Jam on Oct. 28 and 30.

It's been the heart of music in Philly for more than three decades, but all good things must come to an end: Comcast-Spectacor announced the last act scheduled for Philadelphia's Spectrum is Pearl Jam, for two concerts on Oct. 28 and 30.

Then, presumably, the place will come down. It's already been announced the former home of the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) and the Philadelphia 76ers (NBA) will be replaced by an entertainment district.

As far as arenas went, the Spectrum was regarded by artists as an above-average venue: its size made for comparatively intimate events, and as a prime location there was a lot of history there. This fall bands like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Alan Jackson are playing "farewell" concerts of sorts there.
